_FINAL THOUGHTS:
As a class, we learned that the African Burial Ground in Richmond, Virginia is indeed a place that matters. We've done our research, written our opinions, and expressed our thoughts about how best to preserve our state's - and our country's - history. Like Sankofa, you have developed the wisdom of learning from the past to build the future. We are fortunate to live in a city that is so steeped in history. The unfortunate chapter in American history that was the slave trade is part of our city's heritage.
The story of Gabriel Prosser and Richmond's African burial ground cannot be found in a history textbook - but it happened, the past must be acknowledged, and respect must be paid. You, as a young historian, have been part of that process.

Completed drawings will be hung in the classroom and shown on the class blog.
FINAL CLASS PROJECT (not graded):
Create a This Place Matters video based on our research, our writing, our city hall meeting, and our drawings.
We will post it to You Tube, create a link to the video on our blog, and send it to the National Trust for Historic Preservation!
